Have you ever felt so scared after watching a movie that you were not able to sleep? Some people even got a heart attack and died because of horror movies. One of the most recent terrifying horror films is “Pet Sematary”. It is an American movie written by Jeff Buhler and released on April 5, 2019. It is inspired by Stephen King’s novel of the same name. I loved the wildly performance of the actors more than I should have. However, this does not make the movie perfect. Ultimately, the plot is missing some suspense. The movie was mediocre based on some specific criteria which are the actor’s performance, plot, special effects and the horror
One the thinks that I really liked was that the actors did a really good job especially in expressing emotions. For example, when a sudden death occurred, both Jason Clarke (Louis Creed) and Amy Seimetz (Rachel Creed) showed a deep expression of sadness and tragedy that made me cry and feel that this death is happening in the real word. Also, John Lithgow (Jud Crandall) expressed a lot of regret of what the pet cemetery caused.
But I didn’t really like the plot. it was not that good. It is missing some suspense; the events of the movie are predictable. For example, after using the supernatural cemetery to bring the cat Church back to life, I knew that it is only a matter of time before one of the child’s will die and Louis will use it again to bring his kid back. Also, it was obvious that the parent will be attacked by this creator who come back to life after death. So, knowing and expecting what is going to happened in the film made the movie kind of boring to me. But the end was kind of good because killing many people and bringing them back using the evil cemetery left us with an open ending and an expectation to a second edition of the movie.
One of the things that the movie is missing is special effects, I mean the film did not contain advanced special effects. All the scenes were shout using some simple effects. However, even without those effects, the film was scary. Modern movies usually tend more on relying on special effects to scare the audience. For example, they include scenes for monster and terrifying creators to frighten the watchers. On the other hand, in “Pet Semetary” the scary part was the story itself. Even that the evil character which is the little girl did not look that scary, I felt afraid of her because I knew she come back from death with great evil deep inside her.
In conclusion, scary movies are meant to frighten the audience. So, the director of “Pet Semetary” obviously achieved that goal. Although, the movie was not perfect, but it scared the audience and made them wait for a second edition.
